Oh, I've been to Prague...it'S a gorgeous city :D

Anglo-Saxon culture is going to be one of the topics for my oral exams, actually. Have you already read the poetry, like The Wanderer or Wulf & Eadwacer? I love Anglo-Saxon poetry and culture, it's so fascinating.

GAH, Prague is gorgeous in every single picture I've seen. I think it's impossible to get an ugly shot of that city! :) How did you like Prague when you went?

Oh wow! I haven't read much of the Anglo-Saxon poetry yet...it wasn't one of those things that was ever really available to me. But I'm reading Beowulf now (Seamus Heaney's translation, of course!) and I think I'll read The Wanderer on my own time. It's an absolutely fascinating culture...the blend of Germanic and Celtic and how you can watch English culture and language grow is amazing.

How much research/emphasis have your courses put on the Anglo-Saxon literature/culture?

Today, my prof was saying that if you went back to King Alfred's court, you could probably understand his English without an immense amount of difficulty...I find this slightly hard to believe, but I guess in a way it makes sense. Adjusting to the dialect would be so hard to do, though! :)

[/end geeky ramble] =)

I thought Prague was really beautiful, and I was lucky to go during a sunny week in autumn so that made it even more beautiful :-)

Yes. And the slow blend of Christian values with pagan rites is just...I love it :-)

Not that much. Or more, there are lots of very different classes offered each year and then you take your pick. We have one prof who offers Anglo-Saxon classes, but he's the only one...

Today, my prof was saying that if you went back to King Alfred's court, you could probably understand his English without an immense amount of difficultyHm, I doubt that. Old English is much closer to German than it is to English (that's why lots of Old English scholars are German), not only sound-wise but also in grammar and syntax. You know the spells Merlin uses? That's Old English. I think you could ( ... )

OH MY GOD. Prague in the autumn would be amazingly beautiful! ...Do you have pictures? lol!

*plunks geek hat on head* I just took my exam for Beowulf today! ...I rambled for probably two pages (gah!) about the theme that community has in the poem and was impressed that I remembered that much. But I LOVE Heaney's translation...it's still so pretty and I didn't mind reading it for class at all!

Old English is much closer to German than it is to English See, that's what I thought, considering the Anglo Saxons were a Germanic people, so I wanted to call my prof out on it, but he's a daffy old man and I felt slightly bad after I debated his interpretation of one of the parts anyway ( ... )

GAH YOU ARE MY FAVORITE RIGHT NOW! =)

There are a few I'd LOVE uploaded, if you don't mind...

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Animals
Bruises - Chairlift
Pump It Up - Elvis Costello
Such Great Heights - The Postal Service
Happy Alone - Kings Of Leon (they ARE overplayed, but they're so good!)
Feeling Good - Nina Simone
Return - OK Go
Sway - The Perishers
1963 - Rachael Yamagata (I've heard this one before and LOVED it, but I never knew who the artist was! THANK YOU!)
Back In Your Head - Tegan & Sara
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes (need to get more White Stripes stuff. I had quite a bit, then my computer crashed and...ugh.)

Okay, so that's actually quite a bit, and I'm sorry... really. Does it help if I do a lip wibble and promise any music of mine you might want? I have...lots. From ghetto rap to indie pop to electronica (Natalie Portman's Shaved Head <--words can't describe how amazing) to...idk, I can post an abbreviated list if you like. =)

THANK YOU DEAR!! (you're honestly saving my sanity!)

How have I not replied to this? I hope my epic emails of rambling-ness make up for my non-replying here.

Dude, which friend do you have in PRAGUE? And yis, Prague is very, very pretty (from all the pictures I've seen anyway).

Ahaha. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is AWESOME. Do you remember how they mocked it on one of those VH1 specials? Anyway, so now I always have Hal Sparks singing it in my head whenever I listen to it. GOOD TIMES. Also, more music? Um, I don't think I have anything that exciting since the last time you went shopping, but I'll see what I can dig up. :/

Aw, look at you and your British Literature geekiness. *ruffles hair* So cute. lol. :D

lol, not replying-ness is okay. Epic emails are epic and do make up for it. =)

Do you remember my "mentor" for Honors last year, Katie? ...probably not, but if you do, she's the one in Prague. She's studying poetry or writing...something along those lines. *le sigh*

I don't honestly remember that "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" was on VH1. But that's okay...I still enjoy that song and not having Hal Sparks in my head is perfectly fine by me. ;)

*flattens hair* Yis, of COURSE I'm adorable in my lit geekiness. =D

They are epic, indeed. :)

Hmmm...vaguely...? Does she speak the language over there? Or is she just going to wing it?

...even if Hal Sparks is adorable. *beams*

lol, epic emails...*le sigh* My fingers feel too tired tonight to write more epicness, but rest assured you'll find another one soon. :D

As for Katie, she speaks a little bit of Czech, and is (apparently) picking up more and more as she goes along. At least that's what her Facebook is saying, but idk. I'm just a wee bit jealous of her!

...but he still doesn't belong in my poor tiny head! *pokes head, scowls* =D
