If you have a son/s,  did you circumcise?

Why or why not? Please leave a comment with your choice and why you made it.

On a final obligatory note, I'm asking for my own curious reasons and I have no desire to spark controversy, so if someone leaves a comment that you disagree with or think is inaccurate, be nice.  If two parties agree to a healthy ( Read more... )

We circumcised our three sons. Our reason is simply because that's what we do. Blackstones were circumcised for the past few generations. We see no strong reason to change ( ... )

Hey, how'd you find me on Livejournal? I know you! ;-)

Jeremy and I have personally decided against, but I think if we were to do it we'd go the mohel route as well. Much less hassle as you say, and less intimidating than the closed-doors aspect of surgery. I would feel alot more confident that way.

I have been subscribed to your journal in Google Reader for 2 or 3 years. I cannot remember how I first came across it. I confess I don't read it regularly; it just happened to pop up on my main page.

It's surprising and scary how much I can follow and figure out on the Internet!

Speaking for my parents here - they opted not to circumcise the boys based on the fact that they saw no religious or medical reason to do so, and they felt opting to err on the side of non-intervention was the best policy. :)

I meant to edit the post saying that I'd take input from girls with brothers as well, glad you chimed in. ;-)

Riley isn't circumcised either, but growing up with only the one brother I was always sort of apathetic and out of the loop about it until Jeremy and I started looking into it.

This morning we weren't sure, but as of this afternoon we've decided against for the same reasons you listed.

We did not. We didn't feel there was good evidence to do it, and my family didn't do it either so that's what I was used to.

As I said in above comments, that's essentially been our conclusion as well but growing up with just one brother (he wasn't circumcised) I didn't know if we were at all unusual and if there was some huge glaring argument for circumcision that I'd missed.

I haven't found one, so we've basically decided as well there isn't enough evidence in favour of circumcision to risk it.

Thanks for commenting!

Hi, I ended up here via eattheolives, I believe.. anyway, I know this is an eons-old post, but since this is something my husband and I were discussing recently, it was interesting to see some other perspectives & reasons behind people's choices. So, thanks :)
