One year later

So. A year ago today we carted everything we own up three flights of stairs and moved into our very cozy one-bedroom apartment here in metro Denver. Life at 5,280 feet has been good to us so far. It has involved lots of beer, thick jackets, new friends, allergies, thunderstorms, snowstorms, writing (I think my all-time page count at work is now 800 ( Read more... )

Hm, I have a few VNV Nation songs ("Further" is one of them, I think), but they haven't made much of an impression on me. Haven't listened to those songs a whole lot, though.

Sorry to hear that. VNV is one of my all-time favorites, but I understand they might not be for everyone. I feel like they have such a wide range of material, though, so you're bound to find an album/track that stands out with a bit of exploring.

They used to be super-industrial and dark, but now they're all melodic and EBM (for the most part). I love "Further," but it's technically a b-side. I was introduced to VNV through songs like "Carbon" and "Epicentre" (Luke and I danced to the latter at our wedding, HAHA). Some newer tracks that are pretty accessible are "Tomorrow Never Comes" and "The Farthest Star". I just adore Ronan's lyrics, and the whole philosophy of the band (VNV = Victory Not Vengeance).

(iRoh FTW.)

I can't believe it's been a year already! Seriously!

The game and the show both sound like they were fantastic. Glad you had such a great time!

WHOA! I have my iTunes shuffling my "All Rock" playlist (approximately 23,000 songs encompassing all varieties of rock) and Johnny Cash had played just before I read this! What else have you been listening to lately? I must know!

Ah, I'm glad you guys are doing so well and I hope the rest of your Holidays continue on that path. : )

Ha! Awesome. And... 23,000 songs (in ONE genre)?! Madness. You, sir, are a music library unto yourself!

Yeah, now that Christmas is upon us I've been listening to a lot of Vince Guaraldi Trio, Johnny Cash, Dean Martin, et al - it's just the mood I like to set around this time of year.

Apart from that, I'm still abusing the new Mute Math and VNV Nation albums (of course), with a more conservative amount of My Brightest Diamond thrown in for good measure. :] What about you?

Ah, Christmas. Always loved Christmas and Christmas music, but have had trouble getting into the spirit until just about Christmas Eve these days. A good friend is hosting a Christmas movie night next Thursday, so maybe that will help.

I was in a big mainstream r&b and hip-hop mood for a couple of weeks, but I shifted to electronic and industrial rock yesterday morning and have been feeling it ever since. This morning, I've been listening to KMFDM and their song, "Anarchy" (below), in particular. If you've been in a VNV kind of mood, you might enjoy it. : )

Nice! The sound and vocals remind me a bit of Velvet Acid Christ. Or Imperative Reaction. Good stuff. I certainly love me some industrial. You may have shifted my own music mood just now. ;]
