[Log] Duel: Erasmus vs. Ris

Nov 29, 2007 21:32

After Erasmus punched Ris for a comment about his service to the Crown, a duel was arranged. Ris took the champion option, much to many's chagrin. And so, the Mandrakes and onlookers meet in the ballroom of the Golden Goose to see honor defended.

Ow! That can't be good.

Must say that Erasmus and Ris both came out of that looking good in their way (ok, admittedly not to Caine!). Good show old chaps! And Gerard... damn. Don't break the Commander of the Hounds. It can take hundreds of years to find good help.

Yes, it was a very odd scene. Erasmus and Ris, I think, won where it most mattered to them both. I'm still sorting out the subtle significances in what happened. :D

And then there's Prince Caine. *sigh* :)

Piffle. I won, of course. You were knocked unconscious, and then I showed mercy by healing you. ;)

Gerard screwed you. :) The whole reason Ris got Gerard as his champion was to keep Caine off your back. But then Gerard set the scene up such that you get stuck with Caine anyway!

But he screwed me, too. My poor, aching jaw.. :)

That's your perception. Mine is actually quite different, so would appreciate your acceptance of that fact, at least OOC. ;) I don't actually buy the retro-explanation for a lot of reasons, but it's better left to IC and not OOC. Just be glad for Gerard ( ... )

Kind of related to my long comment above, I work and live under oath, myself. There's always a bit of oneself in one's character, afterall.

This sums up, in many ways, why Erasmus is such a compelling and interesting character. Having a core motivation, a core ideal, that defines his interaction with other people gives him a neat kind of depth.

What this shows is that Eramus is Noble on all levels.

That was a lovely duel and was really exceptionally more interesting than I had anticipated it being. So thank you for everyone for making it that way!

In retrospect, Erasmus, I realize that we actually had a golden opportunity to do a compare and show that Consequences are way more interesting than some people might realize. For instance, Gerard's goal was to incapacitate Erasmus painlessly (relatively). Erasmus's goal was to not flinch and bravely take the strike (thus relating to his oaths and his role as a true believer).

I mean, we we were both in agreement, I think, that both of those things would happen. But when you look at those stakes, you see a beautiful example of desired consequences that are very different from 'I STAB YOU AND WIN!' And that's just fantastic.

Agreed! It was kind of bizarre, especially since it was completely unplanned to happen that way (go Ris for keeping the champion a secret even OOC until Gerard stepped in!) and was a kind of "lose the battle to win the war" situation. Yes, I think that's what it was.
