poll: for science!

Jan 13, 2012 18:24

I have some questions for you guys. Results are visible to all; I believe you can vote anon? I opened the poll to everyone. I'm curious about the participants in erasureathon and your processes. I'd love it if everyone could answer at least some of the questions - I know the age one is a little personal, but honestly as far as I know doing erasure ( Read more... )

Darling, this poll is most unscientific! Must not mention any ages twice or I, being in fact 24, could tick two boxes!

Same-not sure which range I should classify myself in, as I'm 20.

I am sorry about that, oh gosh I'm redfaced now. Pick the higher bracket.

Um, it's possible you didn't mean the 'any other comments' to be nerdy remarks about your research design, in which case ignore my contribution. Sorry, I've just finished work and apparently have not switched mental modes...

Ahhhh I am the least scientific poll designer, if I were as sharp as you right now I would also have criticized my poll :/ I usually rely on the ability to edit things after I post them to keep myself from looking foolish, but unfortunately i can't do that for polls. why, lj? Thank you anyway though!

This poll makes me feel pretty old as a 32 year old! And the first person I saw doing erasures like this is in her late 30s, though she does them in traditional media.

I've never done anything like this before, in fact I haven't written any poetry in over ten years, and while I write some prose I'm mainly an artist. I'd be curious to know if anyone else came at it from that angle.

I am an insolent 22-year-old and I do apologize! I was polling about age because I assume that most people in fandom are teens/twenties/thirties, but of course people whose erasures get well-known do traditional media and have been around longer. I was curious if there'd be a way to connect the digital media types to the young ones, but I was too hasty to consider whether this would be easy to figure or not.

I did wonder about the balance of poets/prose-writers/artists! I should have made that a ticky box option. I am too, too hasty to post these things.

That's ok, I empathise with the "oh god I wish I could edit polls" feeling :)

I think it depends on which parts of fandom you hang out in, too. I did a poll on my journal a few years ago and there were quite a few people born in the 60s.

I have a fairly small fandom circle compared to some, but I suppose I should have figured that the people I remember being in their late twenties when I was 14 and first on lj are definitely now older than their late twenties, if they're still doing fandom. haha, oh my bad science. I've made a note about the ages, to pick the higher bracket, and I think that is the best I can do in a pinch.

*coughs* Ditto about the survey critique. If I hadn't run out of characters, I would have added that I had a lot of fun taking part in this fest, and I appreciate your work in putting it together.

i didn't answer the 'are you a graphic artist' question because i can (sort of *coff*) and do use photoshop, although i certainly don't think of myself as an artist, but i got the impression that the question was geared more to the use of programs. so, um, my long-winded answer to that question!

also, i am 34. it's the first time i've ever checked the last ticky-box on an age poll. i guess it's all downhill from here!
