Neil Gaiman said he doesn't write the screenplays when his books are filmed because no parent should have to butcher their own babies. Novik seems to be taking a very healthy attitude towards the entire thing; and I can't help loving the fangirlness she still feels free to exhibit.

She mentioned in her blog she's registered for Wiscon. I hope she makes it, I'm going and I'd love to see her there.

If you meet her, I want to hear all about it. Actually, even if you don't meet her, I'd still like to hear all about the con. I love cons...so much more than working. :>

Will do. Have you ever been to WisCon? Major amount of fun. First feminist scifi convention (or as the late, great Issac Asimov used to call it "those perverts in Madison"), thoughtful, provoking; but never strident or preachy. One of the highlights is the bake sale fundraiser for the James Tiptree Award. Best hospitality suite combined with amazing programming, and the guests! Octavia Butler, Connie Willis, R. A. MacAvoy, Lois Bujold, Ursula Le Guin. So many fabulous writers. Best place to spend the Memorial Day weekend.

I've never been to WisCon. On Memorial Day weekends, I used to go to MediaWestCon in Lansing, which was absolutely wonderful. All fans, no guests, tons of zines. I haven't gone in several years--the flying is abysmal. Takes all day, thunderstorms...you know. Now I just go to Orycon and Norwescon since I can drive to them.
