The led him to the remade Sokyoku. The last of the three traitors. He was strangly eager for the end. After all, he had nothing left to live for. Aizen was dead, Rangiku was dead, this lieutenant would be fine and his children were better off without him. Nothing remained for him. Nothing at all. It was time to make the acquaintance of the Sokyoku.
When they were all in position and Ichimaru had been led onto the Sokyoku stand, Yamamoto asked, "Any last words, Ichimaru?"
Gin opened his eyes, revealing to all the vibrant blue orbs he had been hiding, "Farewell," he whispered, "Sorry."
He was raised up above them all. The fire bird spread its wings, "I can't do this!" screamed Yachiru, turning she ran. She could watch Ken-chan hack away from dawn till dust and beyond but she couldn't watch this. There was just something so... wrong about it all. Just something that made her stomach lurch and her heart twist into painful knots. She couldn't do this, she couldn't watch. She just couldn't. But Kira did.
He kept his eyes open and fixed on his captain. He kept watching till the flames engulfed him. A piercing cry rent the air. For a moment Kira wondered if Ichimaru had cried out... but... no.. Renji was coming towards him, looking concerned, his lips moving but Kira couldn't hear anything, that pitiful cry still ringing in his ears. Where had it come from... it was then that he realised that HE was the one who had cried out and then he knew nothing but darkness.
Present
Kira shot-up breathing heavily. After all this time, that day still haunted him. "Bad dream?" asked Soifon sleepily as she sat up next to him.
Kira forced a smile on his face, "You know me," turning slightly to pull her into a hug, "I am plagued by them."
"You could tell me what you dream about once in awhile," she pointed out, wrapping her arms somewhat awkwardly around him. Even after all this time, hugging didn't come naturally to her.
You wouldn't understand, Kira thought to himself, No one alive will ever understand why I still miss the Captain and why I am still haunted by the day he was executed. Not even Yachiru, not really.
Of course, he couldn't say that to her. That was a sure way of getting kicked out of bed and being given the silent treatment for days, if not weeks. He preferred cuddling with his little bee more then feeling her sting. So instead he said, "I could tell you but then you would think me even more emotionally weak then you do now, Shaolin!"
Soifon huffed, like he knew she would, "Why you insist on calling me Shaolin..."
"I like Shaolin," stated Kira, "I mean Captain Soifon is a mean, aggressive bitch who is wound too tight. Shaolin Fon on the other hand was a sweet, cute, utterly adorable girl..."
"I was not!" protested Soifon, "Besides, you were what... a toddler back then. How could you possibly remember what I was like?"
"I remember," said Kira, pushing her back on the pillow, "Because even back then, I was in love with Shaolin Fon."
"Liar," said Soifon but smiling despite herself.
"Can't prove it," returned Kira before proceeding to kiss her and using the feel of her lips to forget about the end of his captain.
