or, Why Erecia Hates the Japs; Redux

I wasn’t going to do this. I was going to hold my tongue like a good little mithra. I read the EN questions submitted to the JP crowd and their responses to those questions and caught myself thinking, “oh wow, these are actually some fairly reasonable replies from the JPs. Maybe my hatred of them is poorly ( Read more... )

I am compelled by this and will probably end up reading it all before I leave work today.

Couple notes first:
- Your URLs for the questions/answers are backwards, it took me a minute to realize
- I read the COR questions and answers and was intrigued, thanks for highlighting that.

I'll be likely to post these questions myself and give my answers too.

Thanks for the corrections.

I'm looking forward to your answers. Knowing you, you'll probably be a lot more reasonable than I am.

I will be but I think you're not unfounded in your responses. Still there are "more reasonable" responses and I will put them in my blog soon. Is Elmer watching the blogosphere? God bless him for doing this, by the way, it's an awesome idea.

I'm relatively sure Elmer watches the blogsphere. At one point he was writing up an entry about ACP and he made a reference to several blog posts that were complaining about it, including my A Crystalline Failure one.

Of course, answering the JP questions is all people are doing these days, so it's probably a lot to sort though. And my answers were never intended for the JPs anyway; they're my personal thoughts on the questions and the mentalities that spawned him.

Bless his heart for doing all the work though. I go deliberately out of my way never to say a bad word about Elmer simply because he's in such a thankless position caught between two fairly hostile cultures.

They could have asked some interesting stuff like we did, but they just took the opportunity to attack our players, all the while pretending that the JPs don't do any of that. Or it could be that Elmer actually thought these were the best questions asked...

As a BLM, I'm often having to /tell JPs and ask them if they're solo'ing and which camp. And often not getting a reply, then getting to camp and see them resting near a BST mob without a pet. And I've never EVER seen a JP give more than a few minutes warning when leaving -- it's just (I'm sorry) (I'm sleepy) and they're gone.

I remember way back in the day, when I was still a lvl 30-ish monk we all thought that JP players made the best parties. And for the most part, it was true - atleast for me - the JP parties *did* seem better and more organized. However, as time went on, and the NA players started learning more, they definitely became the party of choice - JP parties were rare, slow, and above all, a hastle, because it was made pretty clear that you were only invited as a last resort due to their lack of effort to communicate with you, or even be remotely social with you period. Talking in broken english should be no more embarrasing than when I attempt to talk in toddler level japanese to them ( ... )

Man, you really should start writing blog entries of your own. You're always spot on and seem to have so much to say. I know you say you don't get a bunch of stuff done in game, but you could just skip talking about that entirely. "Stuff I did recently" entries are the most boring for me to do, yet necessary because my memory is so bad.

There's a lot of really standup JP players to be sure. I played alongside a lot of them in BTL on Seraph. But for every nice JP player there's also a mean one, xenophobic and elitist. Did you ever see the mysterytour page for Mee Deggi the Punisher back when there were gilsellers? It was hilarious: "Danger Chinese" lol

I've had great experiences and bad experiences with JP players. I'm sure the same goes for them and EN players. Unfortunately it's just human nature to remember the bad ones more clearly than the good ones.

Also~ remember the nationality of the player who worked out how to calculate enmity ratings. I remember hearing that a non-JP player worked that out upset quite a few sections of the JP playerbase, lol.

lol thanks - I'll havta mull it over. Just wanted to say that I'm just as sick of this "don't piss off the JP's or then they won't help you get yer subjob items." crap that seems to be going around.

Hey, Erecia, thanks for the comment on my "reply to JP questions" blog post! Like a lot of you folks pointed out, the JP questions are very negative compared to the EN questions. Honestly, after seeing those questions, my already neutral respect to the Japanese players, well... tipped downward.

I think you'll enjoy my boyfriend, Xiahou's, blog entry, too. He shares the same sentiments that I do, too. And, of course, there's Starcade... *lol*
