Yes! That's really what it's all about, with relics and all. Knowing you're in the presence of somebody historical, somebody who changed the world, even if they're very dead.
Did y'all make it down to St. Paul's? Even aside from my personal reaction, that was just an awesome church. I liked the papal portraits. I missed seeing what all's underneath St. Peter's. When I go back, I'll have to do my best to do both.
You can compare my picture of the altar to the one showing the sarcophagus in the article I linked, and you can see exactly where it is! Exactly where it was all along, it thrills me to think.
Yeah, it is a great place! You could literally spend years there and not see everything. Just seeing all the churches would take years. I hope to have some moe pictures up soon!
Hi there! I saw your post in "meetchristians" so I decided to look at your journal. I was interested in this post here because I too am fascinated by the uncovering of what may be St. Paul's tomb (I even posted about it in christianity and mere_christian. My favorite writer is CS Lewis, and I try to be "merely Christian" as much as I can. I'd be happy if you'd like to add me.
Hello. I'm very glad to meet you. I've actually seen a ton of your posts in christianity and other places, and admired them. It struck me even before now that we were members of a lot of the same communities. I'm just shy about adding people. I don't think I've even added anybody who didn't add me first in a year or so. So I guess meetchristians is a good thing? People are adding me, and now I see people asking for me to add them.
I fall into the category of "mere Christianity" also. I haven't actually read the book; I have a copy, and I got about halfway through it once before school distracted me; but I'll have to read it over the holidays now. I've been meaning to get more into Lewis for ages. All I've really read is Narnia. Nominally, I'm evangelical, but at this point I'm glad just to be back in the fold. I complained for years about "conflicts" I had with different branches of the faith, and it kept me out of church and away from God. But I see now that they were really just excuses.
Oh, now after reading this I feel a little foolish with the wording of my initial request to add you. Seems you were looking for friends anyway. I guess I shouldn't have thought it was such a big deal. *blushes*
