Remember the hawks at Harvard? We had all kinds of Drama earlier in the spring, and then the upshot of that was pretty unclear. But my guess has been that the resident pair didn't raise any young this year, because of the disruptions to the mating season ( Read more... )

Buffy reference. Anya on Buffy had an irrational distaste for bunnies, so much so that in the musical episode (don't ask), when everyone was suddenly struck with the (un-turn-off-able) gift of song, Anya tried to blame it on bunnies.

Thus, whenever something mysterious occurs, "It could be bunnies!!" You never know what those nefarious beady-eyed rodents might do.

Ah, right! Amazing the things you can kind of forget about a show (that we did watch religiously -- that was the start of our "everybody get together at somebody's house to watch TV" days/nights), although if you say "Anya" to me, the image that always leaps to my mind is of her in the bunny suit.

I wonder if that is the old female hawk. The way she's sitting may mean an old injury? I don't know, I know nothing about raptors. She is very fluffed up, though. What great photos. I envy your camera.

Bunnies! The more bunnies the better the foxes and hawks will be fed. >_>

I don't know... I would often seem them fluffed up, and it may just be the strong breeze that day that was causing her to look fluffy. And I think her posture was due to having chosen to perch on that curved arm of the cross, leading to one of her feet being lower than the other. I REALLY wish I could have seen her ankles!

What surprises me is that the bunnies seem to have moved in and started taking over DESPITE the increasing prevalence of resident hawks and, apparently, foxes. I've always figured that the increase in hawks meant they were finding prey (squirrels and rats and songbirds and pigeons), but am surprised to see the increase of a prey population that wasn't as prevalent before.
