So I read "Hunger Games" right about the time "Mockingjay" came out and really, really liked it. I then read reviews of "Mockingjay" and decided to forego the upcoming pain and not finish the series. Then I got an inexplicable hankering to read "Catching Fire" and, although I liked the plot, I started having those "shake Bella because she is such ( Read more... )

I was very satisfied with Mockingjay, though it probably is the lesser of the three, but still...

And the epilogue was a million times better than Deathly Hallows! *g*

Oh, and I, too, love Peeta, find Gale boring, and HATE Twilight.

Everything she said. :)

(Except for the Twilight part -- I've never read a single word, so I have no opinion there. Other than having no interest whatsoever and therefore not reading a single word, but whatever, lol.)

Oh, I've never read Twilight. I still hate it. That's okay, right?? It pretty much has to be! (Maybe if that Bella girl would wash her hair...)

Read it. It's like this: I fell into the Twilight series and am working my way step by agonizing step through the swamp of teenage/vampire/werewolf angst. But so what? It is always better to do things and regret them than to not do them. That's what we're SUPPOSED to do. Twilight both sucks and blows. But I'm in for the whole ride, to the bitter end, and I will write more fanfic about it because it's like shingles or something. An ugly disease but you just can't stop scratching. I can't describe it.

Read your book. Don't shake Bella, though. Her head can't sustain much more damage.

Mockingjay sucks. I am sorry to report. Only marginally more than Catching Fire sucks, i.e., it is Catching Fire with a few extra homicidal lizard men (really), but the sucking is a considerable letdown from the first book of the series. Even not considering the world-building (or not) of the thing, the plotting of the latter two books is awkward, unfulfilling, and outright manipulative, which I know is common in YA but is also pretty hard to take.

I blew through it - no, it's not Hunger Games and yes, Katniss will annoy you in many ways - but at least you can say you read it and it's a quick read. I'm a freakish completist that way.

Yeah, that. Plus, most of the interesting stuff seems to be happening outside of Katniss' POV or ability to understand what's going on, so it's kind of frustrating.
