Oh. This is heartbreaking. Gorgeously written. I can totally feel her despair and that she feels less than up to the task of survival. And I can feel her relief at being able to give up and that's it her Tommy that will kill her.
I have to say, the implication of that last paragraph is utterly terrifying. I'm sitting here alternately stunned with terror, and marveling at it at the same time.
The little senses of loss in the community were, as ludzu-alus said so well, entirely heartbreaking. The despair is just here in waves..and yes..that final moment when she sees her Tommy..and reaches for him...

One doesn't always need zombies around to know they exist... I find the presence of just that one to be more chilling emotionally than a horde of them.

I was a little worried about the lack of actual zombies, but I've always been drawn to how survivors are affected, so...here we are. :)
