Poor Lindir! And poor Tallath! His behaviour is awful, of course, but I also wonder what made him like that, and what his thoughts really are. I mean, was he ruined by bad experiences earlier in life to the extent of becoming unable to look at the joy of others? Or does he think he is helping Lindir? Or is he simply prepared to do anything to keep the family he still has together?

No need to reply, of course, just want to share my thoughts. Until now, Tallath just seemed bad to me, but now he is becoming a person that I would like to understand and, if possibly, help.

I'm enjoying being engaged by your thoughts and comments. Thank you :)

I find your sentiment of Tallath receiving understanding and help interesting and thought-provoking for later in the story.

Perhaps a different experience for him at the outcome will be more satisfying than I have planned right now. (Your comment being rather kinder toward him - and on reflection probably more appropriate to the story and the reader - than my more callous plans!)

Showing the 'reader' more of my 'whys and wherefores' behind his odd behaviour is probably a good idea, too, I'm thinking.

I hadn't thought of this from Tallath's POV until Malinorne's wonderful observation above, but perhaps it's a bit like having a cuckoo in the nest for Tallath. WE know of course that Lindir is destined to be one of the most brilliant musicians in all Middle Earth, but that may not be quite obvious now (and most likely would seem an absurd notion to his own family, especially his eldest brother.) Like having a very young Freddie Mercury as your too excitable and wildly unworldly little brother, who will need a great deal of "real world" guidance in order to settle properly into his "place" in life. And, of course, Lindir himself is still trying to discover what that "place" might be, though his instincts seem to be serving him well!

You and Mal got me thinking. 'Wonderful observations' is the right phrase for both of your thoughts. It's great to have you commenting.

I am bowled over by your Freddie Mercury analogy, your description of Lindir and of Tallath's view. I find it both flattering (VERY fond of Freddie) and intriguing somehow to think of Freddie's family wrt Lindir.

Seeing your thoughts gives me a lovely sense of sharing the characters with you. What you say about the cuckoo in the nest disturbing Tallath is brilliant for how I see Tallath.
