Famed author of a great many adventure, espionage, and military SF novels Tom_Clancy has left us. I have to admit, I was never a fan of his work (I had no problems with it, just never read any; I kind of got burned out on modern adventure novels after years of reading Mack Bolan as a teen). Carvis is a fan of Tom Clancy. I read some of his books with Jack Ryan but lost interest when he moved into using the drug cartels as his villains. We, of course, like the movies Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games. Carvis has seen Clear and Present Danger although I didn't watch it.

We haven't gotten any of his books for a while because we couldn't afford it. So I have no idea what he's been writing recently.

Tom Clancy was a good writer and certainly knew his material. However, he has never been in my top 10 list of authors. Top 100 sure, maybe even top 50. Mostly it's because espionage and military are not my top choices of genres although there are several series I like in those genres. Give me a good mystery (Poirot) or fantasy novel any day.

My own tastes in mystery tend more towards Judge Dee (great look into classic China); though I may get a taste for Solar Pons now that I finally got a copy of his stories.

And according to my brother in his last few years Clancy's plots were getting a trifle bizarre, what with people discovering Atlantis and what not.
