My Latest Favourite Word

Jun 12, 2007 14:30

Overheard in the halls just now:

"Too much navel gazing; not enough navels."

As a result, "omphaloskeptical" is my new favourite word.

What ever did we do before the Internet?

I honestly have trouble imagining. I grew up in the '70s, of course, so I should have some idea, but there are certain activities that I've never done without the Internet for which the Internet seems indispensable. Job hunting, for example. Presumably mathematicians looked for employment before the Internet, but for the life of me I can't imagine how that worked.

That is a great word. I have several friends who are in a perpetual state of omphaloskepsis.
