Eric has never said, "You know, Sookie, that bullshit Bill pulled was seriously out of line. I could have him killed for you." Or, "That tiger's betrayal? Unacceptable. I'll happily rip him to shreds, if you like." Or, "I am not pleased with the way Alcide keeps dragging you into his were business. Say the word and the wolf dies." Eric seems to know better. While everyone else is lining up to stake him for Sookie's benefit, he gets that she doesn't want anyone's blood on her hands.

I never thought about that before ! It's true that he could have totally done that, but like you said, he apparently knows that she would not want that.

I love your posts so much :D

Merci!

I do find it fascinating that despite his power, Eric has yet to be the one to initiate violence in the books. He responds with deadly force when it's brought to him, but he never leads with it.

I too really enjoy your posts. You really are great at pointing out things about Eric and Sookie that I never picked up on until you point it out in your posts.

I agree completely! Eric knows if he had killed Bill, no matter how much ground he made with Sookie, that would be the end. So he took his revenge in the other most effective way. Since Bill tried to kill Eric to bury his secrets, and end his attachment to Sookie, Eric forced Bill to come clean immediately. Thus essentially neutralizing Bill's motives and the threat. It's like the best response to a blackmailer - put everything on the table.

I do kind of think due to the gravitas of the scene, that Eric was sending another silent message. Bill tried and failed. Eric was making a point of sparing his life - in front of Sookie. He was demonstrating that he wasn't killing Bill because he was so very not scared of him. It has a whiff of, "If you try again, you will fail a second time, and I might not be so forgiving," to it. And because that message was delivered with Sookie as a witness, she would have to respect that if Eric's life is in danger, Eric will do what he has to do.

BTW, one of my pet hates in fic is when Bill ( ... )

Commenting like fifty thousand years late to say that this line?

"You know, Sookie, that bullshit Bill pulled was seriously out of line."

That line is the best line I've ever seen in reference to Bill. I heart you for it.
