Planning for the feast
This Thanksgiving my brave parents are driving over the mountains with a turkey, pies, a rocking chair, and some tools and paint brushes. Work tidbit
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single computer not functioning properly, must be in want of another person to stare at it and say something completely obvious such as, "It's unplugged," or "Let's just turn the monitor on and see what happens," before it will work.
I've been on both sides of this one this week. -

Um, Universe?
If bad things could stop happening to people who really need bad things to stop happening to them, I'd appreciate it.
If not, I'm going to be in the market for a pair of steel-toed boots so I can do more damage when I kick things. -
Holiday
I have taken today off, which means I slept in until 10:00 a.m., have been lazing about all day, and am now off to the library to stock up on fodder for tomorrow's lazing. It's a sweet, sweet thing to take the day for myself and to stretch the Fourth of July weekend out like this, especially since naps come so easily to me these days ( Read more... ) -

Sometimes, when the day has you down, when it seems like life is gray and sad, when you feel overwhelmed and tired, and you wonder if your evil landlord may just win after all, the universe surprises you, happily, with naked Swedish men, dancing with crisp bread. Thanks, Universe!

Good news? What's that?
Yesterday evening, as N, Mom and I were sitting around the table after dinner, the phone rang. It was our future landlord, owner of the house we fell reluctantly in love with a few weeks ago. Note to self
When I worked at a bookstore in Chicago, one of the silly little books we sold up by the cash register was Zen Judaism. I used to love flipping through it when business was slow.
Here's my favorite tidbit from that book, though it may not be letter perfect; sometimes my memory seems to work like a game of telephone.
