Also, your Dad's advice sounds like he has kind of a narrow definition of success. Also, like maybe he wants what's best for you, but his definition of best is perhaps limited.

I think that (depending on the style of life you want to lead) your enjoyment of what you do is the most important. The amount of money it makes, how prestigious it is, ... doesn't matter. Not one ounce compared to your happiness. And this does seem to be a liberation of sorts. So go out there and find your passion and enjoy what you do everyday.
