Well, its been offically a week since I signed up for the Las Vegas Marathon. I have booked and paid for my hotel room ($250+), paid for the marathon ($85), bought a t-shirt ($20), bought a running chip ($30), bought a Nike Ipod running sensor ($29), and spend another ($140) on various running shorts and tank tops ( Read more... )

You think Running is expensive... you should try cycling!

Between my bike, shorts, shoes, helmet, bike computer, jersey, and water bottles, I'm up over $3k easy! And my bike isn't even top of the line! I ride with a few people that have easily spent over $10k on a bike...

I'm starting to run again. I'm aiming to do a triathlon next year, just need to work on my swimming and running.

You ahvea couple months left to train... ease into it, don't kill yourself too early!

Hahaahaa.. yeah. trust me. I know about cycling. I used to love cycling and I know how things add up. I have a carbon fiber mountain bike and a Ultegra/Aura Ace road bike. I used to love working on the bikes and riding them. That was an expensive hobby. Even more expensive when they hang on your wall in the garage!

I kinda fell out of love with cycling after I bought my first motorcycle back in college. It was all of the speed and excitement, NONE of the pedaling. LOL.

I would like to get into a triathlon as well. I figure once I get this run out of the way, then I can work on my swiming. I pretty much have the cycling part down. Its that swim thats going to kill me. Im pretty much a sinker. I think I will do a sprint before I attempt any sort of long distance Triathlon.

I agree with ya there... The biking, I'm not worried about... the runnign, is just a matter of getting the miles and speed up a bit... the swimming part... ehhh... not so great... i've never been a great swimmer. I've surfed off and on since I was 13, but the swimming part wears me out.

Sprint distance is what I'm aiming for first. See if I even like doing tri's, and then progress from there.

If you are really interested in doing one, here is a suggestion. Sign up well in advance! I have been saying I wanted to do a triathlon since I was 20 years old! (14 years) but here I am in my mid 30s and I still havent done it.

Now that I signed up for my 1/2 marathon, and I know that Im going to be doing it, its amazing how motivating it is. Its just this date that is "looming" out there. And as fast as time goes, I know in no time Ill be standing on the start line.

Do you have a spring in mind? maybe Ill do it with you.

oh yeah! I plan on getting a super deep massage, then I am going to go to a asian reflexology place to get my poor feet rubbed, and then going to a spa to soak in a hot tub and rest in a sauna. Then I plan on taking a long nap followed by a nice dinner. I can almost taste the steak now!!! Thats a great reward that I am looking forward to! Heck, thats half the reason I am doing this! LOL
