Three things that would fix our health care system within one year

Jun 28, 2004 14:20

1. Either return prescribing power to pharmacists, or remove the need for prescriptions altogether

2. Massive, large-scale drop out of people from health insurance

3. Tort-law reform, or something else that gets rid of the gross number of frivolous lawsuits and removes the need for doctors to carry such incredibly expensive malpractice

I would LOVE for prescribing power to belong to pharmacists. Pharmacists study pharmacy for 4 years and are required to do loads of continuing education. Doctors take maybe a semester or two of pharmacuticals and get continuing education on drugs mainly from manufacturer's advertisements. We under-utilize our pharmacists skills and the result is big pharmacutical companies can manipulate the heck out of doctors and the general public, not to mention a lower standard of patient care.
