Sometimes the truth isn't nice. Sometimes it offends people.
Sometimes it's elusive. Sometimes it is NOT.
I don't think it makes you an asshole or anything. I think
if it's done right, it makes you kind of heroic. When a person
surrounds themselves with so much bullshit, and then shoves it in your face (captive audience stuff), people will react.
Maybe noone has ever told her (including her friend) that she's a walking contradiction and a fool.

She might not like you being not nice even when she's not pregnant, but we female creatures, when we are pregnant, well, how can I say this? Everything is magnified. Our good sides, our bad sides and everything we're sensitive about. It's not just crazed hormones. It's the idea that you want everything PERFECT for your baby, and that includes foreign countries that you'll never visit, cupboards you never open and the state of the ozone layer. It wears off.
I see no reason why you should be nice when you don't want to be. You seem like the kind of person that can accept whatever feedback you might receive. Just check for gun racks before insulting rednecks in pickups, okay? And for the moment, maybe don't mention your moments of not-niceness to your beloved. ;-)
