I originally posted this track on Tuesday, but pulled it down soon after because I felt it needed some additional mixing. Many, many apologies if you downloaded it the first time - I swear I wasn't deliberately trying to psych you out. :)
Anyway, this here is my humble effort at a Cure cover, and I hope you'll enjoy it...

What do you run your vocals through?

The mic is an old Shure PE55 dynamic. It looks like the classic 'Elvis' style, but it's not that old, I think it was made sometime in the mid- or late-70s. Mine was formerly installed in a local bank. (Pristine sound isn't the first thing that I think when someone says 'drive-through teller window '... ;)
Anyway, the mic goes into a Line 6 UX2 USB preamp, then into Cubase. I used a 'virtual preamp model' that the UX2 came with to tweak the sound a little, then a bunch of plug-in stuff to further wrench it around. I use the Kjaerhus 'Classic Compressor' a lot in particular, and SimulAnalog makes a nice tube screamer model. Additional mangling came via plug-ins from Elogoxa ('Boost Moog') and Oli Larkin ('Choppper'). All of the plug-ins I use are free - I don't really have the budget for the pay stuff yet.
Of course, if I did have a budget, I'd probably first try to soundprooof my room against the four-lane highway right outside the window...
