This time of year, it's easy to let one's thoughts turn to darker stuff, and it's sometimes difficult to see the bright side that's supposed to balance eveything out. I'll spare everyone the unnecessary details, but I will say that while I've had a few personal losses this year, I've also been unreasonably lucky, all things considered. I've got a fantastic wife, a loving family, wonderful friends... and I've got my music, to help me vent the harder stuff in ways that don't involve patching up the drywall later.
This song has been around for a long time, first recorded by Blind Lemon Jefferson in 1928. I grew up listening to the Bob Dylan version, which was released in 1962, a decade before I was even born. It's been covered by a lot of other folks, which I guess puts me in pretty good company. Anyway, I do hope you folks will like this one. It's a song I've loved for a long time.
