According to my home scale, and allowing for inaccuracies both technical and visual (i.e. I need new glasses so it is hard to see clearly what is happening at my feet), I carried a mass of laundry weighing between 90 and 100 pounds to Fiesta Wash and back early yesterday morning. On foot. In one trip. Fiesta Wash is just over one tenth of a mile

If you wait less long between laundry trips, it will not weigh so much unless all your laundry is chain mail. Then it will probably weigh a lot and break the machines at the laundromat.

Thing is this means if I do laundry twice as often I will still be carrying 50 pounds there and back. I don't think I can get it down to 25.

I go backpacking in the wilderness with less.

I think it is advisable to go every two weeks. One time when I was bummed out, I had not done laundry in a little over a month. I had to get a friend to help me carry it. In hindsight, I could have gotten one of those rolling carts.

Good thing you are strong. Me having laundry at home is a must. I can see myself losing bras or underwear and not being able to see it.

I couldn't have picked that much up twenty years ago! I didn't give it much thought until I brought it home and put it down and thought, well, that backpack must weigh close to 40 pounds, and the laundry bag isn't much lighter..

I really wish we had a washer and dryer here. Last place I lived had them inside our unit and it was so nice to be able to do other things while the clothes were cleaning themselves.

Wow, that was a long wait.

I used to go to that kitschy dreadful place, Sit and Spin, in Belltown, probably after your era. I would bus there from Fremont, because there was only one laundromat near me, a largely windowless place with only one exit. Creepy.

Our washing machine now is coin-op AND we pay the landlord for water! WTF? The basement is so dusty it has ropes of dust; it's like a superfund site. Yet that is still preferable to walking to the laundromat with all my laundry on my back, or in a cart.

Ah yeah I remember Sit and Spin. I think they opened after we had left downtown and moved to Capitol Hill. Probably would have done laundry there if it had existed in the warehouse days. In Atlanta the closest laundromat was across the street from a very laid-back bar. One pitcher of beer to wash, one to dry.

You pay water?? Nobody does that. How odd. On the other hand, I wonder why it is that most landlords don't charge for water. I guess they figure it into the rent because it is probably a pain in the ass to meter water to different apartments.
