And I made a video.....

With the discussion running round some of my f-list pages about hijabs and how to wear them, what types etc, I decided to make my very own first time ever You Tube video. *cringes* Hopefully it's not as embarrassing as I think it is....

I never knew you were Muslim, very cool. :]

I love the look of the hijab; I've seen so many pretty ones around campus.

I don't think the video is embarrassing. Very informative, actually. ;)

One thing I am curious about, though. I saw you at the Chicago Stargate Con 2009 and you hadn't converted, and then by the 2010 con, you had. I'm just wondering what made you choose the religion of Islam? (You don't have to answer. I have just been curious since August. ;) )

I chose Islam because I never believed that God could have a son, it never made any sense to me. I never liked the idea of HAVING to go to a church or somewhere in order to speak to God, I never liked the idea of having to speak through a priest or someone for my words to be delivered to God. I like the logical way of thinking that Islam embraces (as far as I view it) and I feel that the Quran promotes respect and modesty for both sexes and encourages the pursuit of knowledge to help others and not just yourself (those that actually read the Quran and don't believe in the chauvinistic preachings of patriarchal old men will see this.) Modern Islam is not properly displayed in the media and those that know Modern American-Muslims will see that we are not all that different from a normal American Christian/Jew/Buddhist/Whatever. I have always felt welcome and loved in every Muslim home and masjid that I have walked into and I feel that I have a real community that supports me and loves me for me as me and me as a Muslim woman.

That was actually very good. I have been curious about hijabs for a while so it was interesting to hear about different types. I've been interested in learning more so this was informative. Thank you.

Well I know there are more ways to wear them, those are just the ways that I wear them. If I can get them right, I would be willing to do another video showing a few other different ways of wearing hijabs. Maybe I can get one of my Muslim sisters to come over and assist me....

I'm a non-Muslimiah hijabi (well, not full time hijab wearer, but enough that people are like.. oh yeah... she's that one that covers up)... not that it matters, but I thought I'd let readers know just in case.

I super love this video. If you ever redo it, I'd like more light so I can see the colors better, but you know, no biggie.

Did you get your hijabs from Hijabgirl dot com? The ones with the jewels are super neato. I've not mastered the use of the straight pins. The one metal clip with the jewels (where you said you'd just picked it up from your dresser) looks super functional. Does it have some sort of special name? It almost looks like a shawl pin. I only ask because I'm desperately google-stalking to find one.

I get some of my Hijabs from there. I did have two lights on so I don't know how to get more lighting, just need to mess around with the camera a little bit I think. I think the one you are referring to is just a brooch, I actually "borrowed" it from another sister and I never gave it back and when I tried she told me not to bother that she had tons. I hear someone mention Claires as a play to find brooches....

Oh, you know what, I don't think i can be called even a non-muslimiah hijabi b/c I don't cover my neck... I just cover my head (and ears). Half-hijabi?

Obviously, if I visit a mosque, I cover up more than usual.

yays for head-coverings. Your video has inspired me.
