A sad and lovely vignette of that time TPTB left almost entirely to our imaginations. It does ring very true.

The idealist in him didn’t like to admit it, but he had a hard time imagining that Ryan would ever be okay again.

There was almost no evidence that Ryan had ever been there at all. That he’d ever been a member of their family.

That was lovely. I so adore a fic that makes your heart feel like it's breaking. Poor Sandy has so little to hang on to, a few pictures, and everything else so intangible. Sad and beautiful.
