My inlaws were here today, sorta. They drove 3 hours one way to deliver a couch, a big comfy chair and ottoman and some chairs for my kitchen table. Stayed for maybe an hour and then left. It boggles my mind. I put the chair and ottoman in my bedroom as a place for me to read and just unwind. The couch (more of a loveseat) went into the living room ( Read more... )

White vinegar will often get rid of smells like that. In the kitchen, I have even set a bowl of vinegar out to absorb odors. To clean the fabric, they make upholstery cleaners that you spray on, let dry and vacuum off - much like a carpet cleaner, if fact some say they are for both carpets and upholstery.

You can also sprinkle backing soda under the cushions and in the cracks, leave it a day or 2, then vacuum it out. Baking soda is good at absorbing odors. And every time you vacuum it will reduce the smell as it sucks the smoke particles out of the stuffing of the couch.
