Dear Dean: You are what you are, and you do what you do, but tonight you were more than a little bit of a bastard. I'm not impressed. Hubby isn't, either.

P.S.
Otherwise, very pleased to have seen Jensen's 2nd directorial effort! The boy done good. Much to enjoy in this episode. :)

Well ... I am kinda serious. About being displeased with Dean, that is. He's probably right about that gal. She went from non-monsterhood to killing 6 or 7 people in a row - even if for supposedly a good cause. Having so thoroughly breached that no-kill barrier, what's to stop her running into some other, future emergency also requiring her to kill? So, Dean's probably not wrong about that.

What got me, however, was the manner in which he went about it. He flat out lied to Sam about believing him, and not only that, but he jollied Sam along with the, "here, you drive us to Spokane, have the keys to the Impala." Not voicing the rest of his thought, which was, "I'm gonna gank your little friend, just the same, because she's a monster and who cares if she killed her own mother to save your life, because you're a lunatic and life just sucks, anyhow."

My hubby is a pretty tough nut, but even he was put out by Dean's kill-'em-all attitude. He was growling "lighten up, Dean" at the TV even before Dean killed the girl. So ... yeah. I think ( ... )

The lying, that's fair. But aren't you just as irritated by Sam sneaking out in the middle of the night? If we're talking trust, here, and lying, then the boys are on a even ground. (We don't know if Dean will tell Sam later - Dean's notoriously bad at keeping sectrets.)
And sorry, my reaction was instinctive, especially after we discussed so thouroughly and from various angles Sam's actions in season 4, you know? I think Dean deserves a lot of understanding. As for the kid I guess I just don't understand why so many people wanted him to kill the kid. Now, that would have made Dean a cold-blooded killer. He didn't kill the kid because the kid hasn't killed. No different than Sam's choice way bak then when he first met Amy.

Oh, I agree re: Sam! When he pulled that, I pretty much ground my teeth. Sam, you idjit, not only are you sneaking off again, but you TOOK YOUR BROTHER'S CAR! Sheezo pete! So, yeah, that was un-cool, to say the least.

And I don't begrudge you your reaction, dear lady! :) Mine was just as instinctive, it simply happened to come out a little differently. ;) I definitely agree Dean deserves understanding. I mean, at this stage of the game, there is nothing - nothing - in this world in which Dean can place his faith. Not man, not God, not angels, not even his friends, since those keep dying off. And Sam? Well, he's dealt with Sam's lapses in good sense, before, and the fact it's beyond Sam's control doesn't make it any easier. I get all that ( ... )

I'm with you on that. Not only for Amy, but especially for Sam. And doesn't Dean realize he IS that kid?? :(

Amen to all the above. :( Dean *was* that kid, alone and angry and lost. And his total loss of faith in everything, including Sam, is understandable and probably unsurprising, but ... hard on poor Sam, and a bad, dark place for Dean. *sighh*

Welcome back!

No, I was not pleased with last night's episode. Dean has clearly lost faith in redemption - and for all he says he trusts Sam. He doesn't.

Nope, he doesn't. :( Dean has lost faith in pretty much everything. Which I guess is understandable, but it's darned sure hard to watch. *sighh*

The whole fandom is talking about that last couple of minutes! Bellatemple has an interesting thought on that - that Amy represents Dean's entire world view now: "People don't change."

I'm thinking I'm very disturbed with our Dean, and it's making me very anxious to see what comes next!

I think Bellatemple is right, Carol. Dean's world view is "People don't change," and it's coupled with a complete loss of faith in pretty much everything. I've had the sense that both he and Sam are just waiting to die in the hunters' life, one of these days, but it's becoming darker and harder, for Dean. I'm not without sympathy for him, because he's not wrong. The Winchesters never get a break. Hell, they averted the friggin' Apocalypse, but where is their reward?

Still, I'm disturbed with our Dean, too, and also anxious to see what's next!
