"I took a better job because it was almost twice the money which I may or may not need. Due to this, I have to work on Christmas. Hopefully you understand that I wouldn't be able to attend every family Christmas party for the rest of my life. I'll see you all next year."

I couldn't have taken the job anyway. For all the reasons above, plus I specifically told them that I needed at least two weeks notice to train my replacement, and the job was supposed to start on November 5th...not enough time. I'll find something after Christmas.
