Drat, a late night showing of "Casablanca" this is a dangerous thing for me, it might derail me from doing anything useful that night. It makes me want to spend time writing that book about the French Fleet ( Read more... )

Ditto on old movies. Mathew Broderick is only two years older than I am (same birthday, too).

I'd be leery of possums in chicken coops after dark, too. Though baby possums -- oh, the cute.

locking the chooks up at dusk is actually a good idea, (separate from whatever nighttime foo regarding Z) PARTICULARLY if you have local possums. I lost a hen in a particularly gory (as in torn to pieces) fashion to an adult possum that got into the henhouse one night because I forgot to lock it up early enough. Baby possums might be cute, but just remember, possums have more teeth than any other North American animal...

I'm with you on watching older movies. My tastes got shaped by the surfeit of old movies that used to be on broadcast television. I don't think I could use your definition of an 'old movie' though. That would mean films such as _The Adventures of Robin Hood_, _Gone With the Wind_, or _Ivanhoe_ wouldn't be old movies.

I was struggling for a definition, especially since people in their twenties refer to "Feris Bueller's day off" as an old movie... I figure when all the principle actors are dead, it sounds pretty safe, even though Liz Taylor, Christopher Lee and Clint Eastwood are in a lot of old movies...
