I had been patting myself on the back for being in Santa Barbara this summer while the rest of the country fries itself to death, but today it's our turn. Until today, it's probably only been in the lower 80s here, but today it's in the mid-90s with the heat index. Still, at least I'm no longer living in Manteca, where it was 112 yesterday. It

dude, i drove back to manteca today and i must say that the heat it both places was surprising. however, the number of fires along the way was even more surprising. At one point along the 5 the fire was so bad and so close to the road that trafic was actually diverted from the 5 to the 33 and then to some random road, aka Kamm avenue. it was the longest drive from santa barbara to manteca that i have ever had!!!!

I heard there's been some guy that going around setting brush fires between the lanes in the freeways for kicks for the last couple of years.
