The Spirit of the Liturgy by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) is a fascinating look into the deeper meanings inherent in the Roman Catholic liturgy. I really appreciate this post! I should pick up a copy this work of Benedict's . I'm gaining more and more of an appreciation for him; at first I was very skepticial of Ratzinger becoming Pope...but hey, he had big shoes to fill. I agree with the thought about pop-music/art being an expression of a lack of depth in spirituality. If everything is gray and transient, then why not paint it as such? Why bother with complex music or art? Those are just some of my thoughts without having read The Spirit of Liturgy.
