And I just got an update from my co-worker who spearheaded the rescue effort:
Katherine, her husband Larry, and I went out to C&O on Saturday to check on Bambi. S/he was gone from the spot where we placed her. I choose to believe that Mom came back and found her. The Second Chance Animal Refuge reports that "Does will leave their babies in tall grass while they forage for food, often only checking on them in the evening." We didn't see any signs of carnage, so we're assuming that s/he was happily reunited with Mom.
Aww, yay. Cute little deer. And yeah, they usually recommend not trying to rescue what seems like abandoned fauns. They're usually just hanging out and waiting for mum. :)
