BODY & APPEARANCE.
⒈ Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Hungary is actually pretty short, at 5'3"/160 cm… but she's also young and possibly still growing. At the present, she's skinny and a bit gangly, underfed although not unhealthy. As she's physically only sixteen or seventeen, she's still slightly awkward and growing, but has quite the
figure underneath it all. Not that she exactly dresses to show it off.
⒉ How old is she?
Hungary was "born" sometime between the 4th and 8th centuries. Since we know she had a grandfather figure as a child, I'd put her as slightly younger rather than older, coming to being sometime in the mid 7th century. This would make her around 1,300 in the present, but only around 850 in 1552: officially a bit younger, as she wasn't fully unified until the 900s. Physically, she's around 16-17.
⒊ Describe her posture. Does she carry himself well or does she slouch?
While Hungary carries herself well, she also tends to walk like a man, with heavy footsteps and squared shoulders. Her chin is raised and she looks everyone in the eye: not only does she walk proudly, she walks defiantly, like she's trying to prove a point.
⒋ How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Hungary is basically pretty healthy. Her constitution is kind of weak due to all the invasions and partitioning she's suffered through lately, although she's able to bounce back pretty easily, and she suffers aches and pains for the same reason. Nothing is crippling, just annoying. Otherwise, she's in very good shape physically.
⒌ How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Hungary tends to be pretty graceful when she moves, her movements quick and alert. She tends to move quickly, and hasn't yer mastered the art of being slow and deliberate with her movements.
⒍ How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive himself in the mirror?
Hungary is actually very, very pretty, with big green eyes, delicate features, a good figure, in good shape, with great hair. She just doesn't care. On a whole, she's fine with how she looks (although she wishes she was taller and 'stronger' in appearance), and just doesn't think about it. Although she's aware she is a girl now and not a boy as she'd thought, she still hasn't learned to really be girly, dress up and put care into her appearance. So she doesn't.
⒎ Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
S's a bit tanned and calloused from working outside, fighting as a solider, and generally living an active life. She has some light scarring on her arms as a aftereffect of the black death, although it's fading and will vanish entirely in another few years.
⒏ Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Hungary has very thick, slightly wavy brown hair, falling down to her shoulders and usually kept in a low, messy ponytail. She doesn't spend a lot of time fussing with it: she just wants it out of the way. As such, there's no real style-all one length, except for her fringe, and parted slightly to the side. She can often be found brushing her fringe out of her eyes. Since coming to Discedo she's letting it grow out a bit, so it's in the way more often than ever.
⒐ What color are her eyes?
A bright, vivid green.
⒑ Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Not especially!
⒒ What are her chief tension centers?
Her shoulder blades and back in general.
⒓ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Hungary dresses for function, not style, and certainly not to show off her figure. While she can dress up and sometimes enjoys it, most of the time she'll be found in very utilitarian clothing: a pair of trousers and a loose shirt, hose and a simple tunic, that sort of thing. Of course, when it's an official event she'll wear national dress or a fancy uniform, but usually she'd prefer to be practical. If her hair isn't in a ponytail, it's usually tucked under a kerchief (although less so since she's still mostly wearing men's clothes).
Because Hungary was raised as a boy, and only just recently realized she isn't one, she tends to wear men's clothes most of the time. She's not trying to hide her gender, she's just not comfortable in dresses and skirts and the moment, and can do her work better dressed as a guy anyway. Her clothing as a boy is even more plain than as a girl.
She favors greens in her clothes, and colors that wear well for work-blacks, neutral colors, things that don't matter if they get stained.
⒔ Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
She's comfortable enough in them (if a little awkward when she has to dress up), but she tends to wear clothes that are a bit too loose on her. It's really just shyness: she's not totally used to being a girl yet, and would rather cover up her curves.
⒕ Does she dress the same on the job as she does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
For the most part, Hungary is a plain dresser on and off the job, dressing for utility and not fashion. Of course, she can and will dress up when the need arises, either in national clothes or light armor for battle. For now the idea of dressing up just to look good is still a new idea for her, although she does want to look good-she just doesn't know exactly what to wear to be so.
⒖ You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Plain, boring underwear of the 16th century.
SPEECH.
⒈What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Hungary's voice is slightly on the lower side for a woman, and sounds slightly rough at times. I suck at describing voices! But
here is a clip of her speaking in the dub, and
here is a clip of her speaking in the Japanese version (in the correct time period no less!).
⒉ How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
At the time she's from, Hungary has a much rougher way of talking than she will as an adult. She's blunt and even swears sometimes, and sounds, well, young as well. She tends to be a pretty fast and emotional speaker, although she's not particularly loud unless she's annoyed or provoked.
⒊ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
I'll probably get back to this when I understand how Hungarian works a little better. But she speaks in a "lower class" dialect, and speaks German with a northern accent.
⒋ What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Hungary is fluent in, well, Hungarian, as it's her mother language. She also speaks perfect German-which she speaks using a rough, northern dialect (like a Prussian, basically). As an adult her German will become much more Austrian. As a good Catholic, she can understand most spoken Italian and Latin, and as a result of her brief unification with Poland, can speak almost fluent Polish. Because French is becoming a diplomatic language, she's learning it-but isn't very good-and she can speak in a few dialects and other languages found around her home. She also speaks Turkish, but hates it.
In Discedo, she's trying to learn English, but it's slow going.
⒌ Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Hungary will speak whatever is easiest for the people she's speaking to. Generally speaking, she's polite but uses pretty casual language overall, and will only become more formal when talking to her bosses. She'll address others politely, with Mr. or Miss or their title, but tends to be much more casual in her actual wording, especially due to the influence of her friends.
⒍ Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
She tends to be pretty reactionary, which goes with her thinking: she doesn't consider much what she says. She can, of course, and will sometimes, but most of the time she'll just say whatever she's thinking at the moment.
⒎ Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Hungary is usually a plain speaker, not overly poetic or elegant. Especially at the age she is now, where she has even less reason to want to or think about being eloquent. As long as she's understood, she's fine.
MENTAL & EMOTIONAL.
⒈ How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Hungary is pretty smart, or better put, sensible. While she isn't the best educated overall, she has a good head on her shoulders and is able to grasp situations and more importantly accept them quickly. While she's probably only of average intelligence overall, not standing out from the crowd, she is clever, quick thinking, and adaptable-all traits possibly more important than being a genius.
That all said, Hungary can definitely be a know-it-all. She likes to flaunt her knowledge, both to help others and to show off, even when her knowledge is completely wrong. The important part is being smarter! She generally means well with this, and doesn't intentionally lie or mislead people, but things she believes that are false are held to the same conviction as things that are true.
⒉ Does she think on his feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
Hungary is a pretty quick thinker. She can and does deliberate when it's very important, but a good eighty percent of her actions are based on reactions and impulse based on situations. She's very much lead by her emotions.
⒊ Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
She tries very hard to be idealistic, but is secretly a bit of a pessimist. While she's too stubborn to let herself give up, she has a negative mindset a lot of the time: she's confident in her abilities, but feels kind of like life will screw her over anyway. Otherwise, she's intuitive and emotional and led by her emotions. Especially when angry. All thought processes go out the window when something is pissing her off.
⒋ What kind of education has the character had?
At this point? Very, very little. She's learned to read and write and some geography and politics, but that's about it so far as book learning goes. For more practical things and things like swordplay, she's better educated.
⒌ What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Hungary is, quite simply, an amazing horseman. Hungary is called the nation of horsemen and for good reason: stick her on a horse and she can do pretty much anything. Lead a charge, fight as a horse archer, ride for two days straight, you name it. Otherwise, she's talented in fighting in general.
Right now she's interested in learning how to be a girl, although kind of shy and nervous about it. She's not completely sold on the idea of being a girl yet-a lot of it seems weird and kind of boring-but she's also never tried. This includes things like cooking, sewing, arts, music, and learning how to dress herself.
⒍ Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Hungary is an extrovert, although she's not wildly outgoing and energetic. She just likes getting to know people and talking to them, and isn't shy in the least.
⒎ Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
She lives by her emotions. If she's happy, she's happy. If she's provoked-which is fairly easy to do if you know how-she's annoyed. If she's upset, she's upset. Her moods change quickly, but she tends to default to a cheerful calm, driven with the urge to be busy and work hard. She does have a core of negativity, but she holds it only to herself and thus doesn't really talk about it or feel the need to.
⒏ How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Like most countries, Hungary loves meeting new people and learning about them. She's very open to experiences and kind of has dreams of exciting adventures, but doesn't get overly hyper or enthusiastic: she has so many insanely loud, energetic friends that she can't help but be calmer and more rational in response.
⒐ Is she more likely to act, or to react?
She'll do either depending on the situation, but Hungary is definitely more reactionary overall. She tends to approach everything with the same calm cheerfulness, but can easily and quickly change that mood in response to other people.
⒑ Which is her default: fight or flight?
She's more likely to fight as a rule, as she is extremely stubborn underneath it all and doesn't like to back down. However, her wilder side is dying down as she gets older, and she'll retreat if she needs to-only to regroup of course. She doesn't like giving up and refuses to as a rule.
⒒ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?

⒓ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
-
⒔ What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
-
⒕ What does she fear?
-
⒖ What are her hopes or aspirations?
-
⒗ What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
She's lonely and afraid and feels isolated. But she wants to be strong and appear strong to others, so as not to appear vulnerable and weak. She's a little nervous about being a girl, because she's afraid it'll make her less of a warrior and less of a country. After all, in the 16th century, women aren't exactly leaders.
RELATIONSHIPS.
⒈ Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Hungary has no parents. We do know she was raised by a grandfather ("Magyar") for a while, but that's it. He found her, took her in, raised her as a boy, and taught her to ride, to fight, and everything else she needed to know. She loved him quite a bit, and feels like it's her job to continue his work on their people; like she inherited his responsibility. And she's very proud that she did, and determined to not let him down.
⒉ Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Hungary has no family at all, actually. She might be distantly related to Finland and Estonia, as they share the same ancestors and language family (all three come from northern Asia), but she honestly doesn't know either of them well at all, and they'd be more like cousins than siblings.
⒊ Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
She has none!
⒋ Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
In the future North Italy, Austria, and even Germany to an extent will be this. At the present, however, there's no one.

BELIEFS.
⒈ Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Going by August 20th, 975 as her birthday (St. Stephen's day, the first king of Hungary + the year he took the throne), Hungary is a Leo, born in the year of the Pig. The pig is said to be chivalrous and gallant and pursues things with all of their strength, stubborn and refusing to retreat. They can be quick tempered, but dislike arguing, and are knowledgeable and well studied. They are faithful friends and extremely loyal. Interestingly, Leo is in some ways similar: brave, strong-willed, and without doubts, they're intelligent and idealistic, and tend to be born leaders. They can be haughty, however, and too quick tempered, as well as hedonistic and proud to the point of being vain. They demand service but are not very good at giving it. Both are kind of their families and loving and loyal to their significant others, although Leos can be flighty, going from one lover to the next.
Many of these traits are ones Hungary has, being particularly brave, strong-hearted, stubborn, and yes-quick tempered, at least when certain people are involved. However, she is not much of a leader. While she can probably motivate her men, she prefers to be more passive, and has spent most of her life in service of others. She can also be haughty, or at least a know-it-all, and a bit too easily provoked, even if her temper doesn't last all that long.
⒉ Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
HAHAHA this question shouldn't be so difficult. Hungary converted to Christianity in 1000 AD, and has been a good, devout Catholic ever since, supporting the Byzantines over Rome. However, at her current time period, she's been partitioned into thirds between two Empires. Under the Ottoman Empire, the Protestant Reformation kicked in hard, and most of Ottoman Hungary has converted to Protestantism, while the part of her belonging to the Hapsburgs has remained Catholic. Because of this, she's currently conflicted as to what religion she should personally follow and what to do about the other one. As of now, she's still Catholic and determined to be a good Christian regardless of what happens.
Because she's living in the 1550s, religion is an incredibly important aspect not just in her life but everyone's. The church is just somewhere you go every day, sometimes more than once, and the idea of not being Christian is like the idea of not breathing. She even used to go on Crusades! She's calmed down a bit from there, but tends to look upon other religions and non-religious people as heretical.
