Summary: Artemis wants to chat with Matsuda
Story:
Matsuda had gotten much more nervous as he looked around the cafe. He knew he had to be careful but he also didn't know what he would be getting himself into with this mastermind. The man knew what he would be getting himself into with Kira, no real names and no giving out information. His deep eyes continued to search waiting for whoever show up first he felt his heart beat quicken as he took in a deep breath and slowly let it out.
Relax... relax... focus on what is in front of you... He bit his bottom lip in thought he hated waiting since anyone could come in from either side of him it made him feel edgy. Matsuda shifted in his chair as he turned his head to the side slowly glancing around behind to see if anything strange might be happening... nothing. Maybe... I'm overreacting? Maybe nothing will actually happen...
Artemis had been observing the man in the cafe for a few minutes before he decided to make his presence known. He looked behind him and nodded once at Butler, his everpresent bodyguard. He didn't think Matsuda would pose any kind of threat, but better safe than sorry. And besides, there was only one place that Butler allowed Artemis to visit on his own. He walked up to Matsuda's table and sat in the chair next to him, Butler simply standing behind it, arm on his weapon inside his jacket. "Hello," he said firmly.
Matsuda gulped slightly as he shifted a bit more in the chair while turning off anything on the computer. He knew he wasn't armed which could be a very bad situation for himself. The man eyed the other slightly before looking up at the bodyguard. He felt his nerves starting to get the best him but he slowly calmed himself down enough to actually speak to the other. "Hello..." Awkward... it's like he's trying to be friendly but the bodyguard says otherwise..
Artemis smirked slightly, pleased at how uncomfortable Matsuda looked. Perfect. Someone who is nervous thinks less rationally, and he knew this would work in his favor. He cleared his throat and spoke up again, flicking some dust off of his suit. "So, Matsuda. You are from the Death Note fandom, am I correct?"
Matsuda stared at the other as he tried to fix his composure but knowing that it was failing. The man looked at the other as he calming put his hands on top of the table to show him that he was not armed in any kind. "Yes, that is correct."
Artemis looked down at the man's hands and nodded. He had already scanned Matsuda for a weapon check before walking in, so knew that he was completely harmless. You just needed to look in his face to figure this out, actually. He thought he should reassure the man, despite how amusing his obvious discomfort was. "You have nothing to worry about, Matsuda. Not yet, anyways," and with that, he smirked, as Butler chuckled.
Matsuda felt his heartbeat quickening more after that as he eyed at them. He didn't like being interrogated but this wasn't Tokyo so he didn't know the actual laws for Ireland either. He felt his palms sweat as he eyed the bodyguard before looking back at Artemis trying to be calm. "If I have nothing to worry about.. what is it exactly do you want with me?"
"Oh, nothing much, really," he said lightly, doing a small dismissive hand gesture. "I just think it would be interesting to have you work for me." Artemis had to get as many people as he could on his side, but unfortunately, the only way he knew how to do this was through his usual methods.
"Eh?!" Matsuda raised an eyebrow wanting to say have you gone mad.. but thought against it. He blinked several times before asking in a slightly confused voice. "Why.. do you want me to work for you?"
Amusedly, Artemis noted that Matsuda's reaction was very Japanese. He hadn't exactly expected him to be surprised, and this further proved that Matsuda did not know much on him, or the fandom. Which, again, was going to work to his advantage. "Because I believe you would be an important asset to me," he said, trying to smile as honestly as he could. Always make the person you are manipulating believe you actually like them. It made things easier. He, frankly, did not believe Matsuda would be of much help. He'd keep simple tasks to him.
"Don't make me laugh. I'm not very useful and I've heard that line used too many times before... how am I sure that if I do help you that you won't kill me?" Matsuda asked as he looked at the other, he had gotten to read up on parts of the fandom but not enough to actually know what he was dealing with. The man knew however that he shouldn't trust the other so easily. "If I'm that much of a important asset to you.. you wouldn't have your bodyguard around.."
Artemis sighed and leaned forwards. "I have no reason to kill you, you see. I'm not a murderer." Butler shifted as he said that, and Artemis glared at the tall man. "Not quite, anyways. I will not hurt you as long as you don't betray me." He smiled and tilted his head impatiently, going back to sitting with his back straight. "My bodyguard follows me everywhere. Even if I had not wanted him to come, he would have imposed himself. It's
"What makes you think I would work for you anyway?" Matsuda asked as he eyed the two of them. He could tell something was up but he wasn't going to question that not one little bit. The man sat up a bit straighter as he felt that he wasn't entirely nervous any more but he could also be falling into a trap.
Artemis nearly grinned. This was the fun part. He joined his hands together, elbows on the chair's armrests. "I can offer you anything you'd like. Anything at all, I can give it to you."
Matsuda narrowed his eyes slightly as he leaned back in his chair folding his arms across his chest. "I doubt you can give me anything that I ask for. How can I be sure this isn't some kind of trap?"
He rolled his eyes and sighed, again. He wasn't as easy as Artemis thought he'd be. Fine, then. He'd insist. "Tell me what you wish to obtain. And I will show you that I can get it for you. I have no reason to be trapping you, either."
"I don't wish to obtain anything.." Matsuda replied as he stared at the other. He knew he wasn't being easy about this ordeal but he had be trained to not take such things lightly. He was being stubborn about it as well he knew there were things he could ask for but those things wouldn't matter in his life.
Artemis blinked. Either this Matsuda was being careful, or he truly didn't want anything from him. "Nothing? Not even money, or fame?"
"Money is only satisfying enough and what would I need fame for? I don't need my name going about everywhere.. too risky." Matsuda replied as he looked at the other. He shifted a bit in his chair as his eyes shifted downward on the table before back up. "Since I'm not entirely sure what exactly it is that you want.. but since I'll be stuck here for a short period of time... and I know for one thing to not go against you.. that would be completely stupid. But since I'll be here for the time being..." Matsuda became nervous knowing this next thing he'll say will be completely utter madness on his part. "I'll do as you ask while I'm here... if you promise to not kill me."
Artemis listened to the other man, who was reasoning smartly. Maybe Artemis could use him for more complex things, if it came down to it. He smiled at Matsuda, tilting his head. "Alright. You will be in no danger whatsoever, as long as you are here. I'll have people watching over you as well, for your protection."
"Alright.. I'll take your word for it." He replied as he continued to look at the two of them. Matsuda sighed a bit as he knew exactly what he was getting himself into.. another errand type of job or something worse. Let's not think of the worse things... let's think of the positive.
"It'll start with really simple tasks, as a test," Artemis said. He wanted to see just how far he could push Matsuda, and if it was possible to have him enter the Library for him. He had to keep in mind that the fish would surely be aware that Matsuda and him had done a deal. Perhaps keeping this quiet was a good idea. "And, of course, I request that our meeting and anything I ask of you stays private". Another tilt of his head, followed by a fake smile.
Matsuda blinked as he bit his bottom lip. Private? Why did that sound so weird? He shifted slightly in his seat as he looked at the other. The man gulped slightly as he tilted his head to the side. "Private? I guess that would work.. but surely... why should it stay.. p-private?"
Artemis leaned forwards again. "Ah, well, you see...I wouldn't want you to get in trouble." He gave Matsuda a meaningful look. "I might ask a few...unorthodox things, later. Perhaps." This hadn't been part of his original plan, but he was sure he could fit it somewhere.
"....what do you mean some unorthodox... things?" Matsuda stared at the other wide-eyed. What had he gotten himself into? He figured it would be some kind of other things but then something else accrued to him. He shifted again in his seat as he phrased the next question more carefully. "After I return... will I still be working for you... or not?"
Artemis cleared his throat. "Nothing you'd like me to speak of here. I will let you go, and send you directions when I require you to do something for me." He crossed his hands over the table, glancing at Butler. "I will send Butler for you if I need to see you personally."
"...even when I leave from here I'll still be working for you?" Matsuda asked still not really believing that. He was already working for other people and he just added another person to the list. He took a glance at Butler before looking back at Artemis questioningly.
"If you fail in anything I ask of you, yes. Do not fail me, and you'll be free again shortly after your return." He'd have no use for Matsuda after a while. He seemed the time to break easily, and Artemis needed someone unbreakable.
Matsuda sighed slightly as he looked over at Artemis. So he couldn't fail anything that he had to ask. But something didn't seem right about that. "Alright... sounds fair.. so what is the first order of business?" He asked as he glanced at the two of them nervously, today was going to prove to be long.
Artemis smirked and shared a knowing look with Butler. "It's quite simple, really." He turned back to Matsuda, and his eyes were glowing. "You must find four of these - " as he said the word, he took out a watch from the inside of his jacket, and put it down on the table. " - watches. It's very important. You'll report back to me tonight, once you have succeeded."
