i was hungry tonight before going to a movie at the AMC. driving down that stretch of ventura i said to myself, "dang, the pub is around here and they've got some awesome fish and chips" so i tell my cousin to make a u-turn and i pass by and i see the place in shambles. i thought the pub might have closed down for some reason, but this is even worse. i'm rather sad for the loss of the place

Awww, well my parents might rebuild it bigger and better than ever, and I hope they do, but on the other hand they are getting near retirement and it would be a lot of work, they have worked so hard throughout life (especially my mum) and need a little rest. Their lease doesn't have much longer left as well.

Yeah we analyzed the chap in philosophy. While a "model" cadet (and later superintendent) as well as a virtuous and honourable man, there is no way to justify loyalty to state taking precedence over loyalty to the country he swore an oath to defend no to mention he therefore defended slavery and probably single handedly allowed the South to last as long as it did. In the library his painting stares across at a massive portrait of Grant. A horrible cadet and a drunkard but still the man who brought the war to a close.

I don't know about war criminal extroadniare. While he was unjust in fighting on the confederate side (just ad bellum) he was still an honourable soldier (just in bello). Anyway war criminal extraordinaire sounds like some comic book villain.

Damned sorry to hear about the pub, I was really looking forward to getting a beer from your pops when I returned. It was insured, right?

Could you send me your Berkeley pics, when you get time? Partially I'm missing the place and partially I'm trying to show people what it's like.

Luckily it was insured and they also believe they have tracked down the guy who did it. Thank you for your condolences, I would of loved to of treated you there. It was such an integral part of the community and so is pretty depressing. The bands who played there (very good ones that grew huge followings) have even offered to host concerts in the park to raise money to reopen it.
