I even went so far as to partially design a key chain that would expand, if it fell, to a size larger than the elevator gap.

Things I actually HAVE lost down through the elevator door gap:

1) Car keys

2) Work keys

3) Paperwork/Homework

4) Disposable Camera

5) A ring

6) change

7) CDs

Luckily, if you find the building people, and explain the situation, they will find their maintenance guy and he can fish your stuff out for you. I had to do this a lot, obviously. Helps you get over your fear when it happens repeatedly and all turns out ok.

All I can say is WOW. Not just one, but SEVEN things lost in the gap. Even if they are retrieved, the odds are staggering. So are the odds I spelled that right. :-P
