Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is closely following the deplorable conditions at many of the VA facilities, specifically Walter Reed.

This is not the military's fault. They are not self-funded. They are funded by the government, who have slashed VA benefits, death benefits, and hell, money for silly little things like BODY ARMOR. This administration pays lip service to "Supporting our Troops" but have not done anything to support them when they are no longer useful.

Next time you see a "Support our Troops" bumper sticker, tell the person owning that car to give money to the IAVA so that they can get rid of the cockroach problem and help those vets that are turned away when they seek medical attention.

This is why a lot of our Senior Advantage members are ex-mil. Tricare and VA pretty much suck, so they wind up augmenting that with Medicare via a private carrier.

You know the shortcomings of Medicare, so you know it's a sad day on the playground when it's a vastly preferable deal to Tricare/VA.

My dad was in the Navy during the Korean War. I once asked him about the VA, and he looked at me and said, "Only if I was dying and there was no other other alternative. And even then....probably not."
