... and then we went to the celebration

Feb 04, 2007 22:42

After Aveline's funeral, drove Simon and Louise (who I hadn't met before) to Insignia (formerly the Megabar) where the remembrance celebration was held. Always enjoy Simon's company and am happy to provide transport. Dropped them off, found a park, fortified myself with a Seven-Eleven sandwich before any drinking.

We had arrived about the time of the official start at 5pm. People came in steadily. I hadn't been clubbing for a long time, so there was lots of catching up. Apart from a period when a whole lot of bad memories got to me, I enjoyed myself and did so more and more as time went on. There was a reasonable amount of finger food provided in steady amounts.

Girl-Fabian was there, who I hadn't seen in a long time. She had done the lining of Aveline's coffin-her seamstress skills are considerable. When I asked what she was doing with herself, she said "being a rock star". She still occasionally runs into tall gay raver Michael, who I haven't seen in well over a year. (First time I met Fabian, she was throwing up at a York St party and asking Michael why he wouldn't sleep with her-she was very drunk.)

Also had quite a chat with Jess, who was being very lively and a bit startled at becoming eligible for long-service leave. Kerry Greenwood had addressed her work and she relayed the story Kerry had told about the stealing dog. (Magistrate's courts can have wonderful cases.) Someone who looked vaguely familiar, but then became very familiar when he started talking, Andrew, introduced himself. I can remember snogging Andrew at Abyss years ago. He was very punk and chatted about how much he enjoyed the punk scene, which he found very friendly.

hasimir solicited a massage from me, which I was very glad to give. His lower back was very badly and unevenly knotted, so I recommended that, if he was having any back-pain, get it attended to. Suggested the Otter St student clinic as an option.

Various folk were keen to have coffees with me, all of which sounded a great idea to me. Gave kitling my number to aid this. It was particularly good to see p_cat. Spent considerable, and very enjoyable, time chatting to kriian & yasutani. Delighted to have subtle_eye (who I first met, naked in the House Smithfield spa) tell me he is really enjoying living in Northcote (awesome) and generally looking a lot happier than when he was going through a bad patch a few years ago. Also always good to see elindal and fraerie.

sly_girl enticed me onto the dance floor. Which I enjoyed thoroughly. I need to do more dancing. ms_kismet bent my ear about the Mad Hatter party at Nemesis next Friday, so I will have to go. Assured spark_au that he would always be a pretty boy to me. qamar expressed increasing appreciation of my LJ and was generally doing the adrenalin-fueled-high-speed-intellectualising thing.

When hasimir rocked up to spark_au and drwally, I moved closer so I could explain that this was the tall people with glasses meeting. I feel so diminutive he said with a smile. hasimir is another who radiates more happiness than he did some years ago.

Grant/Master Vlad started using the St Andrew's cross on a willing lass. tyggerjai was an early volunteer to be beaten by the Mistress assisting. I decided I had to watch that, but it was the normal thing for me. It never repels nor attracts me, so I lost interest quickly.

But I was very amused, as I usually am, by the wider reaction. Folk being flogged always seems to attract a crowd. And the expression on their faces is often hilarious. Such as the set-disapproving-fascination one often sees.

bunnikins looked splendid in a corset. seedy_girl looked splendid. thorfinn was cuddle boy in that lovely way he has. John/Kaelin was also in affectionate mode. In fact, there was a lot of affection going around, one reason I enjoyed myself so.

As 10pm came around, kriian, yasutani and I debated going on to boy-Fabian's party, but decided that we were not sufficiently energised to make the effort. (I was so tired when I got home, that it was probably a very sensible decision.) So did a round of good-byes and then home.
