You can ftp into ftp.york.ac.uk from anywhere...

Yeah, but I am accessing the linux machine from off-campus and therefore only have commandline access. If I ftp from there it's going to take ages to copy everything because of switching back and forth between bin and asc plus confirming everything. I have about 150Mb of stuff on my user area!

150 MB?? Use a flash drive. Or does linux not particularly like USB flash drives??

Hey Frank,

How are things?

I guess I didn't explain myself very well in the query. I am not in York at the moment, so I am wanting to backup my user area to another computer that I have access to at York. I am logging into this machine remotely and from there need to backup my files. I've done it now by installing a fancier ftp client on the linux box which made things simpler.
