Cat problems... can anyone help me?

Just tonight we realised that our cats are peeing on the wall and carpet downstairs. Two male cats, whom we have had for about two years. If they keep doing this, then I know without doubt that my parents will have them put down... with the reasoning that we can't keep them, and that it wouldn't be right to give them to someone else who would have ( Read more... )

Are they neutered? How many litter boxes do you have and where are they in proximity to where they are spraying? If it does come down to it, you can always look into placing them in a no-kill shelter that works on behavioral modification. I'll look in one of my books and let you know if I come up with anything else. *hugs*

Yes, they are neutered. We have two litter boxes, and they're in the room over from where they are spraying. Not that close by... but they're still downstairs.

I hadn't thought of the shelter for behavioral modification. I hope it doesn't come to that... but if they don't stop, then it's definitely worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)

If they're not neutered that could be a big problem. They're spraying their territory. Getting them fixed might solve the problem, it doesn't always work though.

If they are fixed it might be that their litter box is not being cleaned to their satisfaction. We had the same problem with our cats, they started peeing on the wall and in my laundry. Blech.

To get them to stop you might try a vet, they have some spray stuff that helps animals stop urinating on things.

Good luck.

Yeah, they are neutered. And we clean their two litter boxes every two days... but I'm guessing we should be doing it every day? Well, I suppose I shall start doing that.

And I'll look into the vet spray stuff. Anything to help.

Thanks. :)

i might be well off the mark here, but if you didn't have this problem for two years and now it suddenly started, i'd assume they're not happy about something that has changed recently, and show they displeasure. i might be even the new unfamiliar person in the household.

Of course! I don't know why we didn't think of that before... the kitties could very well be upset simply because of the exchange student we have with us.

Thanks. :)
