It's like some viewers need to feel represented by the companion, i.e. the companion incarnates each one of us who dream of going on an adventure with the Doctor, and I was glad when Clara left the stage because she was no longer "one of us", she was too biased and just too much from the moment Twelve appeared.
That being said, I agree on everything you said about Bill :) I didn't really know about the BBC move to divulge Bill's sexual orientation beforehand, but I agree with you on that as well, it feels weird!
Ahah that Scotland reference! It's one of the best quotes by Twelve along with
"Yes I created a distraction... I flooded downstairs with Pokemon."

LOL i love the Pokemon quote LOL! So clever!
Yes the BBC started talking about it and it became this big thing for them! I was like: dudes, first she's a person... do you go that crazy even when you neighbor comes out of the closet? Second are you really showing off and making it about you? Like "look at us we're BBC and we made the companion gay, look at us we're so good and open minded" that sort of takes something away from it, if you're doing it to show off or to get more people talking about you and your show!
