I totally didn't realize until just today that the people who are actually eligible to vote don't see the vote totals until after they've already voted; at first, they only see the radio buttons and the Submit button. So having an early lead doesn't introduce bias in the voting.
The idea is that you've got characters from all sorts of different fandoms (Naruto, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pokemon, Discworld, etc.) trapped at a summer camp (it started in May and has run past the end of the summer, to the campers' dismay) in the swamps of Louisiana that's just crawling with zombies, gorillas, psychic toucans, the tentacle monster in the lake (the campers do get assigned shotguns in order to defend themselves from all this, plus laptops and unlimited Internet access but with all porn blocked)... and occasional odd diseases.
And no one is getting out until they find out who killed the Camp Director's fiancé.
Basically it's an excuse for the RPers to torture their favorite characters and amuse the hell out of everyone involved (the camp produces such wonderful crack (and fics, and art) like you wouldn't believe).
Only already-accepted players can vote on the applications, and you need 70% or more of the voters voting "In" to make it.
