I'm sitting here in a conference room in Timişoara, getting ready to make my first presentations of the visit.  It took a while to get through all of the network tangles to get online, but I'm finally here.  I feel like I should be nervous, but everyone is so damn nice that it's hard to work up too much angst.  Finally meeting all of these

YEA!! I'm glad you are having a pleasant experience. Did you have an opportunity to explore the city any when you first arrived? I for some reason picture Romania to be like most other eastern European cities, kind bleak brick buildings with red tile roofs, but with a really beautiful center or old city with colorful architecture and gardens everywhere. Kinda like Prague. Is it like that? How is the food? We miss you already!!

Aw, thanks. I'll be back soon enough, but huge, dramatic welcome homes (especially if silly hats are involved) are always ok with me! Unfortunately I've only done a tiny amount of wandering since I've been working my ass off most of the time, but I've seen a few cool things and taken some (probably bad) pictures with my spiffy new camera. I'm also having a complete blast meeting my colleagues here (most of whom I've worked with closely for the last year and a half or so online), getting to know them, working through technical stuff, eating and laughing and practicing Romanian and talking about a gazillion things at once - but that doesn't make for the most interesting reports back home

Hopefully you'll get some time to see a little more of the city, but it sounds like you're having a very enriching experience either way.

I will definitely be at your recital but it may be without my lover. He needs to check on the time of his hockey game that day. Although Leah may be coming with me so we shall see.
