This whole post is brilliantly amazing. It all makes so much more sense now.

So, I was following you really well right up until the very end there: "And it's clear from IM2 that Howard was attempting to prepare Tony for some greater battle, perhaps a return of the Cosmic Cube which is lost in the battle between Cap and Red Skull." I thought, though I might be wrong, that we saw Howard retrieving the Cube at the end of this movie....

I'll have to pay closer attention, it was my impression that he didn't find anything. But if he did find it, it might explain how Nick Fury got it in Thor.

ETA: I looked it up on the Marvel Universe wiki and they say that he does find the terrasect. Whoops.

Which would make sense with Nick Fury having it in Thor and with a drawing of it being in Howard's books in IM2.

I am trying and failing to identify the buildings around Stark Tower. It must be in midtown, right?

The chronology of the Starks is confusing me. Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark in 1942 is 31 years old; RDJ as Tony Stark was born in 1965. So did Howard not have a son until he was 54 years old? I guess that's not out of the realm of possibility, but I didn't remember him seeming THAT old in the recording.

Jeremy Renner: pretty hot. I know very little about this Hawkeye fellow but I am already a fan.

(Speaking of... me being shallow, why did we not get Chris Pine in on this action? HOW DID YOU OVERLOOK THE HOTTEST CHRIS OF THEM ALL, MARVEL?? He and Chris Hemsworth were even in a movie together before!)

It doesn't line up perfectly. The recording was for the 1974 Stark Expo, so he should've been in his mid-60s or so then. But Slattery is only like 50.

This is very helpful to me as a casual comics movie watcher -- thank you! :)
