So it looks as though Noah built quite a strong connection with both Nick and Gerard during his basic training... which is nice to know. They both seem to really care about him. Poor Luke is going to have a total meltdown!

This makes me feel so sad and sick to think of all the real soldiers out there, facing this kind of thing every day. I can't even imagine what it must be like for them...

As different as their personalities are… were, he corrects himself, Jeff was laid back and nothing really ruffled him, Hendricks' quick temper, but wicked sense of humor and Mayer, quiet and focused, the straightest gay man he'd ever met. He'd gotten reports from their CO that they were affectionately known as the triplets, since one was rarely without the other two, and that they were a flawless unit when out on patrols.

So sad about Jeff, hope Hendricks makes it. And I know Noah is out there someplace. Was he the guy Jack told to rub that stuff on his nose to help with the smell?

I love that you made Gerard and Noah close in this. Great chapter.

decided in the first chapter to suspend my disbelief that you'd kill noah straightaway (hey, i've killed a major character in combat. i know it could happen.) to throw myself, headlong and wholeheartedly, into this story. these last two chapters really lodged deep, and i've already got the tears i was looking for tonight. thanks for such a gripping opening to this story. can't wait to see where this goes.

also - great use of ocs (though the names davis and jack both caused a bit of dissonance the first several times i read them; i kept expecting them to be the canon davis and jack). i love when authors are able to effectively use minor canon characters and ocs, and especially to effectively use their povs. well done.
