So, I went to the doctor's day. The appointment my mom made for me. I guess, it wasn't too bad. I knew the doctor for long time. Since I was little. I guess that's a while. Heh ( Read more... )

It's still considered pretty outrageous, especially to the more conservative doctors, for someone to start transition before the age of 18, and sometimes even before the age of 25. Sometimes I wish I hadn't found out so early so I wouldn't have to be aware of the agony of waiting till I'm an adult, because there's no way my parents are going to support my physical transition.

However, I do hear about teenagers being able to take hormone blockers (in your case estrogen) and maybe your doctor or another one will let you do that. Have you been seeing a therapist who confirms you have GID? That would help at least a little bit in reducing the fear your doctor may have that you might be making an unfounded decision about what you want. Good luck, and hang in there!

Probably. The thing is though is; where do I find a doctor who will even confirm if I have GID? Oh, uhh, I'm FTM.

I know... if it's my wording, I meant estrogen blockers.

ftmichael knows of some resources for therapists that diagnose GID. You can also ask around online, it's quite likely you'll find some in your area that way.

I know how you feel about the age thing. I'm 18 and still have people telling me I don't know how I feel. I guess you've just gotta be paitent with your mom, mine was the same way but she's starting to come around.
The hormone blockers would definately be a good place to start. Tell your mom that you can always just stop taking them if u change ur mind because there shouldn't be any lasting effects once u stop. Maybe that will give her a little peace of mind and will keep you from having to deal with all the effects of estrogen. Also some doctors will prescribe hormones when you turn 16 so maybe you won't have to wait as long as u think.

hey, I saw your post on FTM_youth and can totally relate, as I am almost 15. People think just becaue you're young you cant be totally sure of who you are yet, but they are wrong. Its actually a fact that kids can know that they are different from as young as 4.

So if you wanna chat or anything cause ur bummed, lemme know
