I began this journal to specifically be my meditation on living in New York, a fact I still find somewhat remarkable, given the three decades I spent in New Jersey. This fact is ever on my mind, and I'm still sorting out my relationship with this very strange place I now call home

One of the things I love about NY is the side-by-sideness of it. Yeah, there are neighborhoods that are mostly rich, or mostly poor, or mostly Asian, or mostly Latino, or mostly some more specific group, like Iranian ex-military or something, but in general all these people mingle freely. Especially, as you say, in the subway.

On Long Island you have to go to Ikea for that experience. :D
