Molly, I love this because even though I know you, I can see a different and new side of you here. Something I didn't already know about you that adds to my understanding of you as a person!
I did sort of pick my name. I was always "Teacakes" or "Teatime" to my parents, but I managed to get it shortened to Tea, and I really like that that stuck.
For those of you who are new to Molly, Molly is introspective, honest, and earnest. She is kind and loving and has a tremendous sense of empathy. She's brave and forthright.
I've always wondered about your name. I had a friend in high school named Taylor, but she always went by "T" because, as she put it, her name felt too masculine. Just recently she started spelling it like you, Tea.
Thank you for the kind words! They put a smile on my face on a very gray day in Portland. I am loving lj idol already!
Dona De La Vega... now THAT sounds like it has a great story behind it, even if it not completely your story to tell, it becomes yours. When one bestows a nickname because of an event, it's as much yours as theirs. I have the weirdest nickname in the world. How many people get called their FULL legal name as their nickname? I'm serious... my nickname is Reid Harris Cooper, by like everyone. I also created a nickname based on a bar event, but only people from back then use it and if anyone else did, I'm offended. Nick names... they are an identity and tell so much.
Sometimes nicknames spiral into other mutations; Dona de la Vega came from a combination of my last name and my first viewing of Zorro in early high school. It is, like you said, only something one other person can call me - otherwise it doesn't fit because they weren't part of the original joke.
I love that your nickname is longer than your actual name. I have a friend studying Russian, and she said that in Russia that is almost always the case. English nicknames, it would seem, tend to be shortenings of names (Beth, Sam, Jess, Nick) where other foreign languages I've studied tend to lengthen names by adding suffixes. Curious.
Well my actual name is Reid Harris Cooper. That is my full birth name.
There's no way to shorten Reid and for whatever reason, while its traditional that cooper's become coop, that was never applied to me. My dad had it and there was a Leon "Leo" Cooper, a former professional baseball umpire and one the most loved teachers of Russel Sage JHS who passed on last year.
The nickname is mildly my fault as back in the day I would introduce myself by my full name but I never thought people would turn it around and use it on me. Then years later, I always introduced myself as just my first name, but my online presence precedes me with my photos and boom.
Man, I'm rambling and for all I know this will be a topic and I'll have to find a new way to tell it... ARGHHHHH!
As it turns out, I've always used my middle name since all the men on my father's side of my family have the same first name. It has always been a total pain in the butt. I empathize with your predicament.
I know loads of people who go by their middle names (by choice) rather than their first, and yours is a decent reason to do so. But the confusion is difficult, I agree!
That's really interesting. In college I noticed a lot of people went from being like, "Russ" to "Russel" or "Kat" to "Kate". I think our identities are really tied to our names.

:) Thank you! It's actually a mixture of a bunch of DW stills, but Jack has a large majority!
