We lost our volleyball match on Friday. It wasn't our best attempt, and in moments of disappointment and stress it gets extremely easy (for some people) to begin pointing the finger of blame outwards rather than inwards. We had to do something like that in social studies, write something nice about all the girls in our class. There were SO many along the lines of "so-and-so has nice hair" and for a few, I had to resort to that as well.

... Erm, as someone who also plays a team sport this post horrified me. I mean, it's a TEAM GAME - which means that no individual should be made to feel sinularly responsible for losing (or winning) a match. It's a team effort. Like, when I'm on the football pitch, I'm not me, I'm part of my team.
You're all adults, not bitchy little teenagers - you're all playing for love of the game, and if anyone isn't then they should go and do something else.

as much as I love the idea of that exercise, this is a perfect example of why it doesn't always work in every instance.

I get the point of the assignment, but like you've pointed out, what point is there in forcing people to give you compliments, you know they don't mean it, they're just doing the assignment.
